10 WCW World Heavyweight Championship Challengers Nobody Remembers
3. Sgt. A-WOL - Nitro, 2000
Continuing in the frequently barmy era that was WCW in 2000, here we have that time that the former Wall of the company enjoyed a brief dance at the top of the card.
Rekindling his feud with Pip Poppa Pump himself, Scott Steiner, the former United States Championship rivals went to war on the December 11 edition of Nitro over Freakzilla's big gold strap.
Now going by the moniker of Sergeant A-WOL, the challenger took it to his hulking adversary, matching Steiner shot for shot and even nailing him with an emphatic chokeslam. However, the minute a table was introduced to proceedings, you had to imagine the night was inevitably going to come to a painful end for the lad being offered up to the current monster Champion.
Sure enough, one suplex through the wood later, a typically stiff Steiner Recliner was cinched in for the expected victory. When your match is swiftly followed by an irate Sid Vicious barking his usual brand of nonsense into a camera lens, it's not hard to see why this match was forgotten about seemingly minutes after its conclusion.
