10 Weird Inspirations Behind Famous Wrestling Attires
5. Rey Mysterio (Daredevil)
'Daredevil' was a superhero movie released in February, 2003. Just one month later, Rey Mysterio would pay homage to the flick at WrestleMania XIX. In the opening match for the WWE Cruiserweight Title against Matt Hardy, the high-flying masked man wore an outfit clearly inspired by the character. Daredevil, starring Ben Affleck in the title role, was released to decidedly mixed reviews. It was one of the most-heavily hyped films of 2003, but a lot of fans of the comic book character were left disappointed by the movie. Similarly, a lot of Mysterio's fans were left disappointed when he failed to wrestle the Cruiserweight belt away from Hardy. It was therefore quite fitting that he chose the outfit he did. This wouldn't be the last time Rey would pay tribute to a film character on Pay-Per-View, but it does remain one of the most unique. The Daredevil-inspired mask he wore had larger horns than the one Affleck wore in the movie, and just came across as a little strange. Compared to some of the colourful masks Mysterio usually wore, it was a bit dull in comparison.
