Sami Zayn was one of the top independent wrestlers in the world for many years, and when he joined WWE, he immediately made an impact in NXT. After a feud with Cesaro that put him on the map, Zayn captured the NXT Championship from Adrian Neville. His reign was short, but fans knew big things were on the horizon for the dazzling high-flyer.

When Zayn answered John Cena's open challenge for the U.S. Title on May 4 in front of a hometown crowd in Montreal, fans went nuts. Zayn, who was introduced by Bret Hart, was clearly elated as well -- he threw his arms up in the air in celebratory fashion, tearing his rotator cuff. Zayn worked a very good match with Cena, but it was clear during and after the bout that the young star was injured.

Zayn, who had recently recovered from an injury, was forced to undergo surgery. He appeared at NXT Takeover: Unstoppable weeks later, but was decimated by Kevin Owens. He's still convalescing, with a return in Autumn looking likely.
