On a live episode of Impact in 2013, James Storm served as special guest referee in a match to determine the number one contenders to the TNA Tag Team Championship. The bout pitted Bad Influence (Kazarian and Christopher Daniels) against Austin Aries and Bobby Roode, and it's notable for a very unusual injury Storm suffered.

After a double-team springboard legdrop by Bad Influence, Kazarian covered Roode. Storm dove down to the mat and began to make the count, but when Roode kicked out, he immediately grabbed his crotch, clearly in intense pain. The match continued and Storm was able to keep refereeing (he even hit a superkick late in the match), but he moved as gingerly as possible for the the rest of the bout.

Clearly, Storm had hurt his groin, but it turned out his injury wasn't as bad as initially feared. He was diagnosed with a partially torn ab and a strained groin muscle, but no hernia. In fact, he only missed a couple of weeks of action.

Later, when recounting the injury, Storm noted that he was in communication with road agent D'Lo Brown via a headset as it happened. When D'Lo asked him what he had injured, he screamed, in understandable distress, "MY D*CK!"
