10 Weirdest ECW Main Events Ever

9. Mike Awesome vs Spike Dudley - Guilty As Charged 2000

Little Spike Dudley's main role in ECW was to get beaten up.

A tiny man by wrestling standards, Spike was often used as cannon fodder by his larger opponents, usually his kayfabe half-brothers D-Von and Buh Buh Ray Dudley. This is an ECW list, so we're using the ECW spelling. Get over it.

Anyway, Spike never won a singles championship in ECW, but that doesn't mean he never challenged for one. In fact, he challenged for their World title on numerous occasions, including in the main event of an honest-to-goodness pay-per-view.

The runt of the Dudley litter battled Mike Awesome in the final match of Guilty as Charged 2000. Spike had been beating bigger men (which was everyone) in the lead up to this match to push the idea that he could win, and while he came close a few times, Awesome ultimately ended up destroying him.

ECW were all about challenging conventional narratives in wrestling, but this was bold even for them. Spike weighed about the same as Awesome's left foot and, on paper, had no right being in the main event. But hey, wrestling matches aren't fought on paper, now is it?
