5. The Death Of The Fake Stan Lane

In 2011, an obituary for Stan Lane appeared in a major Memphis newspaper. One-half of the Fabulous Ones, one-half of The Midnight Express, and one-half of The Heavenly Bodies, gone from this earth forever.

This came as a shock to many, including Stan Lane, who was very much alive.

As it turns out, a man named Samuel Ticer told the woman he married in 1983 that he used to wrestle as Stan Lane, and had retired from wrestling. Since Stan Lane was still wrestling at the time on local television, this would be the equivalent of someone today saying he was Andrew Lincoln of Walking Dead fame, and it only working if you never watched AMC.

So when he died, his wife sent in an obituary mentioning his career as Stan Lane, revealing an incredibly stupid and easily-disproven twenty-year ruse. The final twist? Apparently, some of her family knew it was a lie, and set up a table of Stan Lane merchandise at the funeral to make some quick cash.

Because wrestling.
