10 Weirdest Patriotic Moments In WWE
9. Kenzo Suzuki Loves America!
Remember Kenzo Suzuki? No? That's why he's only #9 on the list.
For those who don't recall, Kenzo Suzuki joined the SmackDown brand in 2004. The Bronze Warrior, joined by his wife Hiroko (in full geisha attire and white-painted face, because WWE), barnstormed the undercard for a bit before joining forces with Rene Dupree, formerly of La Resistance (an arrogant French anti-American duo, because WWE).
But strangely enough, at the same time that he teamed up with Dupree and became a tag team champion, Suzuki embraced U.S. culture in the gaudiest way possible. He wore a big top hat and flag-styled clothing, and sang songs poorly.
It was a very weird inversion of the "part-time patriots" trope, where wrestlers facing a devious foreign heel would suddenly become brazenly pro-America, but only for the length of the feud.
For instance, Zack Ryder and Titus O'Neil were both part-time patriots when battling Rusev, and even The Ultimate Warrior was rah-rah for America against heel Sgt. Slaughter at the 1991 Royal Rumble. Who knew that "parts unknown" were in the United States?
But even those short-lived love affairs with America seemed more natural than Kenzo's extended Uncle Sam impression.
