10 Weirdest Wrestling Cults Ever
4. The Ministry Of Darkness
Initially pitched by The Undertaker as a "plague of evil", The Ministry of Darkness were the variety of cult that middle America feared most – the Satanic kind.
The first opposition to ‘Taker’s plans for total domination came from Stone Cold Steve Austin and Kane. The former he attempted to embalm alive, the latter have committed to a mental asylum. ‘The Deadman’ masterminded violent abductions, mock crucifixions, and ceremonial burning (from crosses on Vince McMahon’s lawn to Stephanie McMahon’s childhood teddy bear).
The Ministry forced membership on selected prey, rather than promoting its membership benefits or offering enticing free swag. Those abducted were indoctrinated to the dark side and given new “dark” identities, such as Dennis Knight becoming Mideon, and Mable becoming Viscera.
The Brood were also recruited and responsible for one of the Ministry’s most shocking (and now blacklisted) moments, lynching Big Boss Man from the roof of Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania XV.
However, the closest to a coherent takeover plan came when the Ministry kidnapped Stephanie McMahon. They attempted to force her to marry ‘Taker during a Black Wedding, putting him in line to control the company. The cult went out with a whimper during the Corporate Ministry storyline.
