“Real World’s Champion” CM Punk currently isn’t allowed in the same room as Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, or Adam Page. Ideally, not even the same building. How much of what’s going on at the moment is a work is undetermined, but the company line is: you gotta keep ‘em separated.
No one said anything about Brandon Cutler, though. The Elite’s mask-sporting cameraman doesn’t lace up his boots too often these days, but could there be any more heroic, and hilarious, reason to resume an in-ring career than to face off against Punk, take his spray painted belt, and really, really annoy a huge number of wrestling fans?
While Punk’s matches have been decent to very good since coming back, his status as a polarising figure only has so much scope. He’s yet to try a protracted heel run in AEW - losing his belt to an Elite also-ran like Cutler could be just the catalyst for Punk to embrace a loudmouth, villainous persona complaining about his treatment and unwilling to let things go.
It’s hard to imagine Punk/Elite never happens. No one would see it coming this way.
