9. Lex Luger Shows Up Unannounced
For the very first episode of Monday Nitro in 1995, WCW top brass wanted to do something memorable. The show had a unique atmosphere from the get-go, emanating from the Mall Of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Add to that a legitimately red-hot opener between Jushin Thunder Liger and Brian Pillman, and things started with a bang. Then, none other than WWF superstar Lex Luger showed up completely unadvertised. Straight from the off, Luger was put into the main event mix, telling Hulk Hogan that he wanted the WCW World Title. Mixing with other names like Sting and Randy Savage, Lex looked like a big deal. Fans were shocked, because he had been appearing on WWF television regularly, and was considered one of their contracted stars. This set the precedent for what wrestling fans could expect from the 'Monday Night Wars' between both companies. The rival promotions desperately tried to out do the other each week, and it was the fans who ended up being the real winners because of this. People did not see this coming in '95, which had previously been such a dull year in general.
