7. The Iiconics Ducking Challengers

Yes, they are heels and are playing it off like they don’t want to defend their titles. But we all know that is hastily written crap trying to distract us from them not being used at all. We had a whole angle about Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose uncomfortably spitting out that they would have a match with the Iiconics for…the titles? A title shot? Nobody quite knows because this was scrapped presumably by the rewrite.

The shame about this is the fact that there ARE really talented wrestlers filling out that SmackDown women’s tag team division. Yet even when we get invested in women’s wrestling on SmackDown (like WWE has been trying so hard to make us do) we are practically punished for it.

The Kabuki Warriors have gone from feeling like guaranteed stars destined to take the belts to forgotten faces stuck in after show segments to explain their disappearance. Did anybody envision that when Asuka put up “the longest undefeated streak in WWE history” (their words) at 914 days? Or her 510 days with the NXT Women’s Championship? No, and I don’t think Asuka did either.

The problems we see here are all symbiotic in their relationship. We see the same faces every week (usually twice now with the wildcard rule which will itself come up again) being overused to the point where we are tired of seeing them. That is how you destroy a push and lose a lot of progress in developing your talent. Which brings us to...
