10 Worst Animal-Related Angles In Wrestling History
5. Ricky Steamboat Scares Jake Roberts With 'Komodo Dragon'
One of Ricky Steamboat's first feuds in the WWF was against red-hot heel Jake 'The Snake' Roberts. The rivalry actually started off in stunning fashion. Before a scheduled match between the pair, Roberts attacked Steamboat and battered him with his trademark DDT. In violent fashion, the move was executed on the concrete floor outside the ring, and actually legitimately knocked Steamboat out. After that, the babyface had a genuine reason to chase the villain and seek retribution. The story should have been easy for the WWF creative team to handle, but they confusingly decided to add animals into the mix. It was all well and good for Roberts to use his pet snake to intimidate Steamboat, but 'The Dragon's' nickname was taken very literally by the writing staff. The end of the feud came when Steamboat revealed that he had his own pet Komodo Dragon. As it turned out, Roberts was scared of the animal, which didn't really look all that intimidating. Indeed, it's likely a lot of fans simply thought the animal was a small alligator, because that's what it appeared. The placid 'dragon' barely even looked real.
