2. nWo Souled Out 1997
In early 1997 the nWo were in full swing as a group and as an angle, and it seemed like they were WCW's key to success in winning the Monday Night Wars and defeating WWF. Therefore, the idea of an nWo themed pay-per-view seems like the next logical step in exploiting their popularity and capitalising on the idea that the nWo were an invading promotion in their own right.
nWo Souled Out took this idea and ran with it a little too hard and it was at the expense of the WCW stars who fans were tuning in to see. WCW stars weren't given entrance music, pyro or even nameplate graphics, and an announcer would often come over the PA to insult the WCW stars, running them down and hyping up the nWo competitors.
If you were a fan of WCW then watching nWo Souled Out was an excerise in frustration as the entire three-hour show was structured against your favourite wrestlers, with nWo commentators and an nWo referee.
There were a handful of WCW victories, but almost every match featured some sort of screwy finish and no-one wants to sit through three hours of cheating, dodgy officials and disqualifcations. Except maybe Vince Russo.
