10 Worst Booking Decisions In SummerSlam History

9. Re-Booking Undertaker Vs. Giant González

The Undertaker’s list of WrestleMania opponents is easily the most formidable in history. But one entry that’s often cited as a major blemish on that list is his WrestleMania IX meeting with Giant González—and for good reason, too.

A slow and clunky affair concluded with González getting disqualified for dousing the Deadman with chloroform.

Okay, so where did González get the chloroform from? And wouldn’t a “dead” man be immune to this? Why did I go back and watch this whole match whilst preparing to write this article?

All of these questions pale in comparison to the one surrounding SummerSlam 1993: why did we get a rematch of Undertaker vs. González just a few months down the line?

I suppose the nefarious means by which González won would usually necessitate some sort of retribution, but I’m not sure anyone was desperate to see it dished out after the glimpse that WrestleMania provided.

Either way, the decision to push ahead with Undertaker vs. González, round two, was not a particularly inspired one. Luckily, ‘Taker’s victory came clean this time, sparing us a third and final rubber match.
