10 Worst Booking Decisions In SummerSlam History

In 2005, the WWE had one of the hottest angles of the summer on its hands. It wasn’t really a storyline, per sé, as it was very much rooted in real life.

Having initially been released by the company, Matt Hardy was brought back into the fold when Vince McMahon had the genius idea to turn Edge’s real-world affair with Matt’s girlfriend, Lita, into a very public, on-screen angle.

And as difficult as that must have been for all parties involved, Edge and Hardy were nonetheless successful in building one of the most hotly-anticipated matches of an absolutely star-studded SummerSlam card.

However, that hotly-anticipated match would ultimately last less than five minutes. And not only that, but Edge emerged the victor after the referee deemed that Hardy had been knocked out and was therefore unable to continue.

Admittedly there were future matches, so the angle at least got some kind of pay-off down the line. But with the fans so firmly behind Hardy—and baying for Edge’s blood—this was not the way anyone wanted to see this clash booked in the slightest.
