10 Worst Booking Decisions In SummerSlam History
4. Undertaker Taps (But Not Really)
After Brock Lesnar ended the Undertaker’s WrestleMania
Streak in 2014, it wasn’t until SummerSlam of the following year that we’d
finally see ‘Taker search for revenge. And while the rematch itself was pretty
great, there was one very noticeable booking touch that wasn’t quite as
impressive.
While Undertaker officially won the match by forcing Lesnar to pass out, a thoroughly confusing non-finish had preceded the final decision.
With ‘Taker in the Kimura Lock, Charles Robinson had begun to count a pinfall as Lesnar’s shoulders had both touched the mat. But in doing so, his view was obstructed and so he didn’t see Undertaker’s right hand tapping. The timekeeper called for the bell, prompting disarray as Robinson tried to explain the match would continue, allowing ‘Taker to capitalise and lock in Hell’s Gate, forcing Lesnar to eventually pass out.
Whether this was an error on the timekeeper’s part, or perhaps the cameraman’s fault for missing ‘Taker tapping—either way it came across as a massive shambles. When even the commentary team are muddling their way through an explanation, you know something's not quite right.
Perhaps it was just a case of poorly executing
a good idea, but for me it’s deserving of a spot on this list.
