In the summer of 2010, Nexus were wreaking absolute havoc across the WWE. After one of the most impactful debuts in WWE history, this rogue group of upstarts looked destined for big things.

Or at least until SummerSlam 2010 came along.

In a 14-man extravaganza, they were placed in 7-on-7 tag team action against John Cena’s Team WWE. Cena had recruited world-champion pedigree in the likes of Edge and Chris Jericho, meaning that all the company had to do was allow the Nexus to go over and they’d be well on their way to superstardom. Plus, the elimination stipulation meant it would be easy to ensure certain members of Team WWE looked respectable in defeat.

Instead, though, they bottled it. With Cena the final man on Team WWE, he eliminated Justin Gabriel and Wade Barrett in quick succession to overcome the odds and doom the Nexus to defeat.

Unfortunately, the faction never really recovered, and were unable to regain their previous momentum. Worse still, the group would disband and now Darren Young and Heath Slater are the only two that remain with the company, in what has to go down as a wasted opportunity.
