When Jerry Lynn became the ECW Champion at the Anarchy Rulz PPV in his home state of Minnesota on October 1, 2000 it was as if they were rewarding him for all of his amazing work. Lynn is one of those guys that really had a lot of great matches in ECW, but he wasn't pushed to that main event level too much. By this point in the promotion they were near the end. Lynn's match with Justin Credible, who was the champ, was going smoothly until New Jack decided to show up at the end of it. The crowd loved him, but they really didn't need him there to help set up the finish of the match. He attacked Credible as well as the evil referee and Lynn capitalized on that to win the World Title. That's really not a good way for a babyface to win a major title. It's more of a heel finish. It was also a short reign for Lynn. He held the title for only five weeks before losing it to Steve Corino. As mentioned, this was in the final months of ECW as a company so they seemed to be doing short title reigns to create interest. It didn't really help the credibility of the ECW Title.
