10 Worst Excuses For Losing A Fight

7. David Haye - Broken Toe

British Heavyweight boxing is experiencing something of a golden period in 2020. However, in 2011 there was only one undisputed top Heavyweight Brit and his name was David Haye.

After chopping down the giant Nikolai Valuev to earn the WBA Heavyweight gold and TKO'ing both John Ruiz and Audley Harrison, Haye's biggest ever test was about to step into the light.

IBF, WBO, IBO, The Ring, and Lineal Heavyweight Champion, Wladimir Klitschko.

The Ukrainian had not lost since 2004, yet many still felt as though Haye stood a puncher's chance of toppling the Heavyweight legend.

He didn't.

Outclassing Haye for 12 rounds, Klitschko went on to take his belt and added it to an ever growing collection.

Losing to a living icon like Klitschko was nothing to be ashamed of. However, that didn't stop Haye from trying to dig himself out of a hole on the night by claiming that his underwhelming performance came due to a broken toe. A broken little toe at that.

Haye was rightly lambasted for this excuse and even the victor on the night offered Haye a piece of advice: "Don't say anything about a broken toe. That just makes you a sore loser."

He wasn't wrong and Haye's reputation took a serious hit after this little whimper.
