10 Worst Excuses For Losing A Fight

6. Colby Covington - Fake Fouls And Banana Peels

Welterweight contender Colby Covington is a lot of things.

A relentless striker. An impressive grappler. A former Interim UFC Welterweight Champion.

He's also become something of an absolute wind-up merchant in recent years. So, it's become quite difficult to tell whether some of his words are honest truth or just a means to further p*ss off his rival.

After being beaten by Kamaru Usman at UFC 245 due to a contentious KO at the end of the fifth round, it appeared as though fans were beginning to actually rally behind Covington - as they felt as though the fight had been stopped prematurely.

Those same fans were even slightly excited about the return of Covington to the limelight, after spending some time off to recover from a broken jaw he received in the bout.

Then, in an interview with Ariel Helwani on his YouTube MMA show, Covington returned to his sh*thouse ways and delivered a gluttony of excuses for his cheating out of the gold. Those same fans then resumed their hatred towards the fighter.

Labelling the conclusion a 'fake stoppage', claiming he was fighting Usman and the ref that night, questioning whether it was legal to have his corner's audio recorded on live air, referring to a knockdown as slipping on a banana peel, the list goes on...

Covington couldn't take that he didn't have enough on the night and this scathing attack only highlighted how desperately he wanted to be back amongst the title conversation in a division which had since moved on.
