10 Worst Excuses Wrestlers Gave For Missing Matches

8. Sheamus “Has COVID”

...oh dear.

A bumper rematch between sexy Scot Drew McIntyre and 'Brawling Brute' Sheamus was advertised for the 8 July edition of SmackDown. Come bell time though, the Irishman revealed that he'd been suffering from COVID and thus couldn't actually wrestle as scheduled - the groans inside that arena were audible.

Naturally, this was total crap. Sheamus, thankfully, is absolutely fine in real-life. His heel character was just trying to find any old excuse he could drum up to get out of the bout vs. McIntyre. Who knew that being pasted by Drew and then Claymore Kicked into oblivion was such a hassle?

Seriously though, this was a poor bit of last-minute storytelling from WWE's creative team. Sheamus has also hinted that he "has/had Monkeypox" during promos, which is...yeah, this is 100% the sort of thing WWE would've avoided two years ago. Hell, they might've deemed it too far in 2021 too.

Ludicrous stuff.
