10 Worst Ideas That Actual WRESTLERS Came Up With

1. Surgically Enhanced Goldust

Goldust is a strange character to unpack.

It's often stated that it was ahead of its time and uniquely compelling, and that is true, but it was gay panic masquerading as something only slightly less on-the-nose. The matches were terrible, and ultimately, the babyfaces you were meant to like acted revolted at his presence. The striking look, enchanting entrance and total commitment to the bit cannot detract from the fact that, ultimately, Vince McMahon wanted to gross you out with the idea that a man fancied other men, even if that man insisted otherwise.

Frankly, it was remarkable that the WWF talked around it as much as they did. Years later, top babyface John Cena seemed to hate gay people as much as Austin Theory and the nation of Taiwan.

As the initial bait of the Goldust character wore off, he "developed" into a bizarre weekly sideshow bit as 'The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust', which saw him mimic various wrestlers and celebrities. During this time, Goldust unsuccessfully pitched to legitimately surgically enhance himself with breast implants.

This terrible and problematic idea was mercifully shot down.
