Once upon a time, Braun Strowman was a hot property in WWE, wowing fans with impressive feats of strength and building a reputation as a legit entertaining big man.

Unfortunately, WWE spent years doing stop-and-start pushes with him, putting Braun in world title matches, but never pulling the trigger. Crown Jewel 2018 felt like the last, best chance to make him the guy.

However, we got the exact opposite. Braun squared off against Brock Lesnar for the vacant WWE Universal Championship after Brock had screwed Strowman out of his Money in the Bank cash-in the previous month.

The match itself was terrible. Raw GM Baron Corbin attacked Braun before the bout, and then Brock just mauled Strowman with a barrage of F-5s before pinning him in 3 minutes. Braun would dance around the upper card for the next year-plus before finally winning a world championship at WrestleMania 36, but by then, the magic was gone.

A year later, so was Braun from WWE.
