Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant is arguably the most important match in the history of professional wrestling. It was the match that pushed the then-WWF into the stratosphere and moved the business ever closer to a McMahon monopoly, a match that managed to stop time and create the most iconic moment in the history of this glorious business. Hogan wasn't the first to slam Andre, but he was the first to do so when it mattered.

The crowd were incredible throughout the whole match, and as such there is no argument to be made against it featuring on any list. Andre's entrance alone is worth seeking the match out, as the iconic Frenchman gets pelted with trash on his way to the ring. But the actual wrestling? Yeah, that stuff wasn't very good at all.

By 1987, Andre the Giant was as good as immobile in the ring and as such this is pro wrestling 101 - and little else. It is a slow and plodding affair that doesn't get out of first gear because one of the competitors was only able to work in that gear. Of course it doesn't matter in truth, but if we're judging the wrestling, then this is without doubt one of the worst matches on the list.

It did change professional wrestling though, so there's that.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
