In 2010, Jack Swagger won the World Heavyweight Title shortly after WrestleMania XXVI. Cashing in his Money In The Bank privileges, he defeated Chris Jericho to bag the gold on the post-'Mania Smackdown. Swagger's title reign wouldn't last long, and he was dethroned in June during a throwaway Fatal-4-Way Match at the pay-per-view of the same name.

Rey Mysterio was the one chosen to defeat Swagger, and the pair were scheduled to meet at Money In The Bank one-on-one. As the World Heavyweight Title match on the first every pay-per-view in the series, this was a poor choice, coming across as subpar next to a Steel Cage war between Sheamus and John Cena over the WWE Title.

The masked man emerged victorious after a little over 10 minutes. Kane, who had won the SmackDown Money In The Bank bout earlier, then cashed in to become the new champion. That failed to make up for the fact that Rey vs. Swagger had felt more like a routine TV match than a World Title epic.

Fans just weren't that interested in Swagger's heel persona, and the bout would have been pretty much forgotten had it not been for Kane cashing in.
