There was no hotter feud in WWE during the summer of 2015 than John Cena vs. Kevin Owens, which no one could have seen coming even three months prior. Owens made an immediate impact upon his WWE debut when he laid out Cena on Raw and followed that up by beating him in clean fashion at Elimination Chamber. Although he lost the rematch to Cena at Money in the Bank, he had a spectacular showing and the match was considered one of the best of the year.

In fact, all three of their matches in 2015 were wonderful, including their final face-off at Battleground. This time, however, the United States Championship was up for grabs, and Owens would have benefited huge winning the star-spangled strap mere months into his main roster run. Unfortunately, that wasn't in the cards, and Cena retained the title.

That said, the real issue with him losing to Cena here was that he tapped out. Cena had already hit him with three Attitude Adjustments (including one off the top rope), but Owens kicked out of them all. Owens submitting was a waste and made him feel less special in the process.

It wasn't until Night of Champions that Owens rebounded from the loss and scored his first taste of WWE gold.
