10 Worst Moments In WWE Battleground History
5. CM Punk Cheats To Beat Ryback (2013)
No one asked for another round of CM Punk vs. Ryback following their failed feud in 2012. Nobody. So, why WWE rekindled their rivalry in late 2013 is anyone's guess other than giving Paul Heyman another person to hide behind so he couldn't receive his comeuppance from Punk.
Unlike their program from one year earlier, Punk was a lot less motivated and Ryback had next to no momentum. Therefore, it wasn't surprising in the slightest that their bout at Battleground was mediocre at best. Punk tried the best he could to carry Ryback to a passable match, but the two simply didn't have terrific chemistry together.
After losing so frequently on pay-per-view that year, Ryback should have scored the victory here, albeit in fluky fashion. Not only was he beaten by Punk at Battleground, the self-proclaimed "best wrestler in the world" had to cheat to win by hitting Ryback with a low blow, despite being a babyface. It was a lame finish to a lame match that kept their lame feud alive.
Can you really blame Punk for wanting to leave WWE after this?
