10 Worst No. 30 Entrants In WWE Royal Rumble History
5. Rey Mysterio - 2014
Wrong place, wrong time seems like the best way to describe Rey Mysterio’s appearance at the 2014 Royal Rumble.
Despite being the ultimate babyface underdog, Mysterio was actually booed when he was revealed as the no. 30 entrant, though it wasn’t his fault in the slightest.
Fans had been expecting – or rather, hoping – to see Daniel Bryan enter the fray and perhaps even go on to win the thing. Earlier in the show, Bryan had lost to Bray Wyatt, much to the chagrin of the Pittsburgh crowd, but it was widely assumed that Bryan would unexpectedly show up and make amends in the Rumble match itself.
Instead, though, Bryan was kept out of the match altogether and an-already riled up crowd responded by turning on the Rumble entirely. Mysterio was booed, his elimination applauded and as strange as it sounds today, fans rallied behind a then-heel Roman Reigns, if only to prevent Batista from scoring an all-too-predictable victory himself.
Of course, Batista went on to win, capping off a questionably-booked show that was somewhat sabotaged by the company’s apparent reluctance to acknowledge Bryan’s overwhelming popularity.
