10 Worst Reincarnations Of Legendary Wrestling Teams
6. The New Blackjacks
Barry Windham and John 'Bradshaw' Layfield were two fantastic singles wrestlers. Both former World Heavyweight Champions, their legacies are set in stone. However, one part of their careers that is often glossed over is their run as a tag team - and with good reason.
The New Blackjacks arrived in the WWF in 1997, over 20 years since the original Blackjacks had run roughshod over the tag team division of Vince Sr's WWWF. Nevertheless, Windham's status as Blackjack Mulligan's son and Bradshaw's alleged status as Blackjack Lanza's nephew saw them become the '90s version of the classic team.
One problem with that rationale was the fact that many of those watching in 1997 were not the same audience that watched two decades prior. As such, the reference itself was extremely dated, not to mention unnecessary, and the The New Blackjacks gimmick was almost dead on arrival.
Sporting jet black hair, jet black moustouches and matching black chaps and waistcoats, The New Blackjacks certainly looked the part of the original. Sadly, this was the '90s and two guys in leather chaps with handlebar moustaches also had connotations of a different kind.
Luckily, the gimmick was dropped by the turn of '98 when Windham turned on Bradshaw to join Jim Cornette's NWA invasion soon after.
