10 Worst Title Reigns In AEW So Far
7. Cody Rhodes (TNT Championship, 32 Days)
Cody Rhodes didn't need to beat Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship, even if the latter was struggling as a babyface. The title change set in motion a difficult year for the belt that Rhodes himself worked hard to build up in 2020 as the inaugural champion.
Guevara had defeated 'The Redeemer' Miro for the TNT title after breaking out as a babyface in 2021, but his reign did not really take off, which allowed Cody to step in and claim back the accolade. Rhodes only defended the title once before dropping it back to the 'Spanish God' in an admittedly excellent ladder match, which would end up being his final outing in AEW.
The 'American Nightmare' may have seen this as trying to put Sammy over on the way out, but it ultimately failed as Guevara's second title reign was worse than his first. It is even more unfortunate that this may be some fans abiding memory of Cody in AEW, considering that his hard work established the TNT Championship in the first place.
It would only get worse for the title too...
