10 Worst TNA Champions Ever
1. Abyss
Abyss has been TNA's most loyal soldier. He's been with the company since 2003 (and even appeared the first show under a different gimmick), been punctured by untold thousands of thumbtacks, and even reportedly turned down an offer from WWE to join the promotion and wrestle Undertaker at WrestleMania.
What's less-remembered about the "The Monster" is that fact that he, briefly, got to reign as NWA World Heavyweight Champion. After years of challenging for the title but serving as a stepping stone for babyface champs, Abyss won the right to get another shot at the belt. He would take on champion Sting at Genesis 2006 in the semi-main event and win the title on a disqualification due to a pre-match stipulation.
That win didn't set him up for a stellar reign, but the next month, he retained his title in triple threat match over Sting and Christian Cage - when he pinned Cage, in the semi-main event again. Abyss's title reign continued, but he still lacked any legitimacy as he had not defeated the previous champion. At Final Resolution 2007, the three men had a rematch in an elimination bout. Abyss was the first man out when Sting pinned him, then Cage ended up defeating Sting to win the title.
Abyss's sole reign atop TNA may have been something of a "thank you" for all of his hard work over the years. Nevertheless, it did very little for him, and even less for the company.
