10 Worst WCW Gimmicks Ever

10. Mike Awesome: From "Fat Chick Thrilla" To "That 70's Guy"

When Mike Awesome made his World Championship Wrestling debut, he came in as the ECW World Heavyweight champion. WCW had signed Paul Heyman's champion from under his nose and Awesome made an immediate impact, attacking Kevin Nash on Nitro. Unfortunately, that was the only idea WCW had for him. With a combination of size and speed that would make anyone else jealous, Awesome was built like a super heavyweight but could fly around the ring like a cruiserweight. It made him one of the most unique wrestlers of the 1990s and seemed like a sure ticket to stardom. Instead, WCW saddled him with the gimmick of loving fat girls. In 2000, Awesome randomly decided that he was sexually obsessed with fat women. He brought out various big-boned females and fed them food on television. Known as the "Fat Chick Thrilla", the gimmick served to completely kill whatever credibility Awesome had built up over the years. To make this worse, a few months later Awesome was completely retooled into "That 70's Guy". Since Vince Russo had seen the success of That 70's Show on FOX, naturally he decided that the world of professional wrestling needed a 70's guy. Awesome was given a Partridge Family-inspired bus to make his entrances and was even given an interview segment called the Lava Lamp Lounge. The whole thing was incredibly stupid and a feud with the awful Insane Clown Posse did nothing to reinvigorate the character.
