10 Worst WCW ‘On A Pole’ Matches

6. Diamond Dallas Page Vs. David Flair - StarrCade 1999

Object atop: a crowbar.

Diamond Dallas Page was a respectable second to Goldberg in the admittedly weak competition for WCW's greatest homegrown asset. StarrCade was the company's flagship pay-per-view event. So leave it to WCW to book him against the worst talent on the roster under the most risible of stipulations in 1999. Risible and pointless, for David Flair set about him with a crowbar before the opening bell.

"Don't worry about having a fight to get the crowbar, just bring your own!" So sayeth Tony Schiavone, the man who had zero f*cks to giveth at the relentless sight of Russo's bullsh*t.

This didn't generate the desired heat because, even with an actual murder weapon at his disposal, Flair projected all the menace and aura of an emo. We were told he was in the process of losing his mind. That didn't translate, either, for Flair was Tommy Wiseau-level wooden. After Page valiantly recovered from the pre-match attack, Flair resumed control. This involved delivering weak stomps to Page's back. Flair contrived to fail at possibly the easiest move to perform in a wrestling ring, being so unathletic as to not be able to bend his knee.

As was so often the case - wasn't the sole strength of Russo's booking its unpredictability? - Flair retrieved the weapon, only for Page to immediately disarm him and dispatch him with the Diamond Cutter.
