10 Worst Women’s Gimmicks In WWE History
6. Summer Rae/Rosa Mendes - Ballroom Dancer
Although dancers possess a great amount of physical endurance, strength, speed and stamina, the idea of a wrestler with a dancing gimmick still doesn’t feel right. So when Fandango and Summer Rae were paired up as a duo of ballroom dancers, it was a little hard to take either of them seriously. You might be able to buy a capoeira fighter as a credible threat, but somebody who uses salsa rhythms and quickstep poise to defeat their opponents is unlikely to become a World champion.
Fandango eventually ditched Summer Rae and partnered up with Rosa Mendes, embracing Latin dancing (and thus a heel persona), before ending their alliance months later. Mendes’ career never really took off after that, although she was employed for several more years, despite rarely appearing on WWE TV until her retirement earlier this year.
Perhaps this one comes down to Rosa and Summer more than the gimmick itself. Fandango managed to do okay with the same premise – his entrance music made it into the UK iTunes charts, he beat Chris Jericho at WrestleMania, and he’s still doing some entertaining work with Tyler Breeze, as the endlessly gyrating Fashion Police – but his valets never really achieved the same level of success.
