In 2009, Jeff Hardy became embroiled in an ultimately disappointing feud with brother Matt. The real-life relationship between the pair was used by the WWE to create a sense of realism, which saw heel Matt attempt to wreck Jeff's life outside of the squared circle. He rigged his brother's entrance pyro to blow up in his face, and was rumoured to be responsible for the burning down of his house. The most clumsy incident, by far, was one which came before the actual start of the feud, and was never officially tied to Matt (due to the haste with which the WWE scrapped it). Jeff and his girlfriend were reportedly involved in a hit-and-run incident in North Carolina, a news story which included fake police footage, and was quickly outed as false. The WWE failed to take into account the fact that Smackdown tapings had already aired in other timezones, meaning that the incident was announced before it was even supposed to have occurred. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqGCgBYfDKc
