The planned WWE angle of summer 2009 was to have Vince McMahon "sell" Monday Night Raw to Donald Trump, a man with whom he'd feuded in the past. In this instance, the angle was convincingly made a shoot by the television network, rather than the promotion themselves. It worked out too well. One day after the announcement, the USA Network released official statements which implied that the whole storyline was legitimate. The WWE's stock dropped overnight, as investors baulked at the idea of a man with such little wrestling expertise running the show. Wisely, the angle was nixed the following week, which saw Vince simply buy back the show. Issues over the plausibility of buying a television show were conveniently ignored.
