10 Worst Wrestling Name Changes
5. The Sandman - Hak
'Enter the Sandman', no, let's go with 'Enter The Hak." It should be pretty clear which of those names is by far the superior.
While it would be great for performers to carry their names wherever they wanted, that isn't the reality, as certain companies lay claim to the branding of their stars. For the most part, this isn't a problem, but then times like this arrive, where the iconic Sandman had to change his name for WCW.
The Sandman is probably one of the most famous alumni from ECW, as his hardcore wrestling and smoking/drinking gimmick was tailor fit for the company. But, his name certainly had an important part to play in his presence, as it was cool, unique and utterly badass. Sadly, when he made the jump to WCW in 1998, he had to ditch the iconic name thanks to ECW's trademark on it.
James Fullington (real-life name of The Sandman) decided to go with the actual nickname he'd developed amongst his peers, and thus Hak was born. But it doesn't take long to realise that this is an awful wrestling name. It's far too short, makes very little sense for the character and is impossible to chant along to.
Thankfully, it lasted about as long as his one-year run with WCW.
