10 Worst Wrestling Name Changes
3. The American Wolves - The Wolves
Wrestling personas are a testament to the fact that detail is everything, as one minor alteration can have a surprisingly big effect. No one knows this better than the team of Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards, as losing but one word from their name took them from having an identity to feeling utterly generic.
This duo made a name for themselves in Ring of Honor, scoring plenty of tag team victories and wracking up both tag team and singles gold. They did this under the name The American Wolves, giving off the vibe of a brash and cool team that elicited the imagery of red, white and blue, with something ferocious.
Even WWE understood to keep the "American" trademark as they wrestled a match for NXT under the name The American Pitbulls, which, while not as good, still conjured up something with spirit. Then, they leaped to TNA, and for some baffling reason, were downgraded to just The Wolves.
Such a minor change shouldn't make a noticeable difference. Still, the loss of that additional moniker brought the teams cool factor down, as their individuality was gone, and all that was left was a mundane tag team name that a pair of twelve-year-olds would probably think up.
