Randy Orton's run as WWE Champ that bled into 2014 gets a free pass because it led to Daniel Bryan's 'Mania XXX moment; the 2013 portion of it, not so much, but more on that later. For now, John Cena is the one under the microscope, and oh man did his 49-day reign scream "quick fix".

Following a depressing title vacation from Bryan due to neck injury, WWE decided that the winner of the 2014 Money In The Bank main event would become champion. Instead of taking a punt on a fresh face, WWE's writers settled on the familiarity of Cena, and he captured his 12th World Title ahead of Roman Reigns, Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, Bray Wyatt, Cesaro, Randy Orton and Kane.

Just shy of two months later, Brock Lesnar mercilessly crushed him at SummerSlam and saved the day.

By comparison to Daniel Bryan, Cena sucked in the babyface champion role. People had seen it all before, were crying out for something different at the top of the card and actually cheered as the heel Lesnar viciously pounded Cena to take the belt.
