10 Worst WWE Entrance Music Downgrades

1. John Cena

Ever since he became the face of the company in the mid-2000s, John Cena’s ‘The Time Is Now’ has become one of the most well-known wrestling themes of all time.

Boasting visionary lyrics such as ‘I brush your mouth like Colgate’ and ‘you’ll never catch me in the next man’s sweater’, it cannot be understated as to how terrible of a song it actually is. Nowadays it is tolerated, with ‘John Cena sucks’ chanted over the chorus in a tongue-in-cheek fashion akin to the ‘you suck’ chants that Kurt Angle received, but for many years it was groan-inducing. This was not only for its nonsensical content but for the fact that upon hearing it, the inevitable outcome was the burial of whoever Super Cena was facing on that particular occasion.

The theme debuted when Cena began morphing into this persona and shedding the ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ rapper character that had scored his ascension through the ranks of the company. ‘Basic Thuganomics’ was a rap song in the same vein, but its similarly ridiculous rhymes befitted the gimmick and were accompanied by a grittier backing track far superior to the one bore by its successor.

Brought back for one night only at WrestleMania last year, ‘Basic Thuganomics’ will always be a great nostalgic throwback to the Ruthless Aggression era. It’s the lesser recalled of Cena’s songs, but will always be the better of the two.
