10 Worst WWE Intercontinental Champions Of All Time

3. Marty Jannetty

It's shocking to think that Marty Jannetty's ascent to the Intercontinental Title throne actually served to get in the way of Shawn Michaels, rather than finish the story of The Rockers as planned.

Reportedly slated to win the title much earlier than May 17, 1993, the vindication for Marty after being smashed through a glass window by Michaels close to 18 months beforehand felt like a let down when he lost the gold back to HBK a scant 20 days after winning it.

Instead of being the ultimate revenge for a tag partner scorned, this was yet another meaningless reign in the history of the Intercontinental Title and got in the way of Shawn's great stint as a heel champion.

The Rockers split story deserved much more than that, but it is true that Jannetty's own personal problems contributed to the lack of faith shown in him by Vince McMahon and the WWF. Marty should have been an excellent IC Champ, as opposed to a flash in the pan that felt redundant as soon as he beat Michaels for the belt.
