Poll 100 wrestling fans who lived through the year on 2002's worst bits and they'll almost definitely mention Katie Vick. That character never wrestled a match, didn't cut one promo, and didn't even appear beyond showing up in mannequin form, but it's etched into the minds of peeps old enough to watch 2002's content live and in living colour. The whole debacle was scandalous to say the least.

In October, Triple H alleged that his rival Kane had murdered a young woman called Katie in a car accident in his youth. Sure, why not retcon a famous character's entire backstory just for the sake of it? What happened to Kane being badly burned in a fire he blamed on The Undertaker? Juggling multiple origin stories was never going to end well.

It gets worse. Trips also claimed that Kane had sex with Vick's corpse once she'd passed away, and bizarrely said he had footage of it. Then, on the 21 October 2002 Raw, Triple H (dressed as his 'Big Red Machine' enemy) hopped in a casket with a mannequin and simulated sex with it. The whole scene was utterly offensive - this was the nadir of WWE's "sports entertainment" and soap opera style drama.

The segment just...shouldn’t have aired. WWE's new story claimed that Kane had killed Katie Vick in a car accident during his younger days pre-wrestling. Not only did that retcon the hell out of Kane’s backstory, but it did so for something in such poor taste that it wasn’t even funny.

WWE and Trips would prefer you forgot this ever happened.
