10 Worst WWE Moments Of 2004
8. Kurt Angle’s Dart Gun
Knowing Vince McMahon's propensity for toilet humour, it's genuinely shocking that WWE didn't have Big Show crap his pants during this zany skit on the 23 September 2004 SmackDown. During an interference-heavy bout between Show and Kurt Angle (him again!), Kurt grabbed a tranquilliser gun from behind the Spanish announce desk, set it up and then pinged a dart right into Paul Wight's back.
Not content with his evening's work, Angle then shaved a helpless Show's head as his heavies like Luther Reigns and Mark Jindrak watched on. Somewhere, a single tear rolled down the cheek of Edge as he reminisced about his 'Hair vs. Hair' match vs. Kurt from 2002. That was a happy memory. This was anything but. In fact, it was one of 2004's worst bits of booking.
Show and Angle had been feuding heading into the No Mercy pay-per-view. After being literally shot in the back with a tranquilliser dart and subsequently shaved bald, ol' BS decided that the best way to avenge this heinous ambush was by beating Kurt in a straight up match with rules on the next pay-per-view. Huh?
The whole thing was just so far-fetched and over the top, and it was also hard to take seriously. People joke about all manner of weird things found underneath wrestling rings, but here was Kurt pulling a rifle out from behind the commentary tables. Did nobody notice that 47 from Hitman-style gun case sitting back there during the rest of the show?
At least Angle managed to set the gun up properly, because this could've gone south in a hurry. Y'know, even further south than it was already heading before the dart was fired.
