He's The Boogeyman, and he's coming to get...Booker T's credibility.

Book would go on to make the best of a bad situation when he was saddled with the passé King Of The Ring gimmick a few months after this, but he surely doesn't look back on WrestleMania 22 fondly. There, Booker and Sharmell lost to Boogey in a handicap match that went less than 4 minutes and was played for horror-tinged laughs more than anything else.

In comparison, maybe fighting over a Japanese shampoo commercial with Edge at 'Mania X8 wasn't the worst thing in the world. The Boogeyman squash was a real low point in T's WWE career. During the bout, Boogey kissed Sharmell with a mouth full of worms, which sent her fleeing in terror. Left on his own, a terrified Booker lost to his undercard foe like their rightful roles on the roster had been reversed.

Worse, this was coming hot on the heels of Booker's series over the United States Title with Chris Benoit. They'd already produced the goods in WCW years before, so WWE smartly programmed the pair against one another and bellowed, 'GO WRESTLE' at them. How we got from that to this Boogeyman nonsense is anyone's guess.

Being fair, their handicap effort was in a rough spot following the fiery (literally) hardcore bout between Mick Foley and Edge at 'Mania 22. People were still talking about Edge's flaming spear off the ring apron by the time Boogey vs. Book and Sharmell was rushed out bell to bell.

WWE pushing Boogey over established main-eventers was the drizzling you-know-what.
