10 Worst WWE Moments Of 2006
9. ECW’s December To…Forget!
Paul Heyman's facepalming really spoke volumes about the horror show that was December To Dismember '06. It was a shocking pay-per-view, one WWE should've been taken to task for charging hard-earned cash to see. They might as well have stormed into fan homes, tipped them upside down, chanted "E-C-DUB! E-C-DUB!" and then left with whatever fell from their pockets.
Matches like Balls Mahoney vs. Matt Striker, Kevin Thorn and Ariel vs. Mike Knox and Kelly Kelly, and Daivari vs. Tommy Dreamer had no business being on PPV. They really didn't. Most of the hate, however, was reserved for a weak "Extreme Elimination Chamber" main event. The 4,800 fans in attendance for the show agreed with Heyman's sentiments.
This was rubbish.
It didn't help matters when original ECW favourite RVD and popular newbie (who'd made a name for himself in beloved indy outfits like Ring Of Honor) CM Punk were eliminated way too early. That left the likes of Big Show, Hardcore Holly, Test and Bobby Lashley to slug it out for the right to be ECW Champ. WWE went with Lashley, someone who felt like a poor fit for the brand's atmosphere.
WWE’s ECW brand wasn't exactly off to a hot start. The first 6 months had some highlights here or there, but the hardcore danger once bursting into living rooms via Hardcore TV and events like Anarchy Rulz or Guilty As Charged was replaced with a more saccharine 'ECW lite' feel.
This was a real, '...but we've got ECW at home, honey' time period. December To Dismember 2006 is undoubtedly one of the worst WWE-produced PPVs ever.
