If you read the worst WWE moments of 2007 piece, then you already know the nightmares caused by Hornswoggle being outed as Vince McMahon's illegitimate son. That spot had originally been ring fenced for Mr. Kennedy, but his toxic mix of injuries and suspensions meant Swoggle got the nod instead. A natural replacement if there ever was one.

Ahem.

McMahon was incensed and embarrassed by the bombshell that Finlay's leprechaun was his boy, so he decided to punish Hornswoggle in a steel cage match on the 18 February 2008 Raw. This was designed to start moving towards a match between Finlay and JBL come WrestleMania XXIV, but it was flagship torture for fan eyeballs. The "Hornswoggle McMahon" storyline felt interminable, and things got proper silly here.

The one-sided cage bout saw Vince literally whip Swoggle with his belt as Finlay (who was handcuffed to the ropes) promised to make the boss and JBL pay for their crimes. When McMahon had his fill, Layfield destroyed his mini peer with a brutish display that near enough made Finlay foam at the mouth. Then, Vince seemed remorseful afterwards.

This ate up far too much TV time for what it was. It also doesn't appear that WWE acknowledges it as a proper match. Nor, mind you, does aggregate fan site Cagematch. There's next to no mention of it anywhere. Wait, did this writer imagine the whole thing? Nobody wants to come to terms with the idea that they might've been sleep-Swoggling. That's like bullying yourself!

Watching wee Swogs getting whipped in the butt by his kayfabe daddy was not a fab way to spend a Monday evening in Feb '08.
