Most people get a big grin on their faces when reminiscing about the 2008 Royal Rumble. That classic Madison Square Garden set up, the fact that WWE opened their 30-man special with The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, John Cena's iconic surprise return - oh yes, it was glorious. Mostly. There's something else about the match you've maybe forgotten since it happened.

Perpetual 2007 nuisance Hornswoggle entered as #9 in the Rumble. Knowing he was outgunned, he immediately hid under the ring, and only really resurfaced to pull The Miz’s arm and score an elimination. Then, wee Horny went back underneath until being attacked by Mark Henry and Big Daddy V. That prompted Finlay to come out earlier than his planned #27 number so he could save Swoggle from a kicking.

The end result? Finlay and Hornswoggle left. No joke, they just walked out of there. The announcers seemed confused, at least until they clearly got word from the back that Finlay had been disqualified for using his shillelagh/jumping the gun on his entrance into the match. He was DQ’d for using a weapon in a Rumble? Hmm, that didn’t add up considering everything that had happened in prior years. Worse, Swoggle was never actually eliminated at all. He simply strolled off.

Also, Hornswoggle technically went 26:17 in the match, which meant he’d lasted the 5th longest in the Rumble behind Batista, Michaels, Undertaker and John Morrison. Yep, Swoggle outlasted workers like CM Punk, Cody Rhodes and Umaga who entered around the same sort of time as him.

Shelton Benjamin got 18 seconds out there, by the way. Let that sink in for a second. Or 18 of them.
