10 Worst WWE PPV Endings Ever
1. Survivor Series 1997
Ignoring the fact that having the promotion's top babyface murder his manager in a concrete crypt is objectively the worst pay-per-view ending ever, at least the babyface won the match in convincing fashion. 'Taker beat up the bad guys and won the match decisively, in the middle of the ring, clean as a whistle.
In a pro wrestling context, the most memorable pay-per-view ending in history is also the worst. The 1997 Survivor Series changed the entire industry, for better and for worse. Everyone knows what happened and why, no matter how murky the entire situation was. In short, Vince McMahon screwed Bret Hart out of the WWF Championship with his own move in his own country.
The show went off the air in a cloud of absolute confusion. Was this all part of the show? What was going on? What was Vince McMahon doing out there and why was Bret Hart spitting at him? Actually, come to think of it, Bret didn't submit! Such stupid endings might be par for the course now but the late '90s was a different time. Fans still believed in the integrity of the show. Montreal changed all that.
You could probably make the argument that it is the best WWE pay-per-view ending, for its influence and infamy alone. From a fan's point of view, it was and is the dirt worst. Did it change the industry? Sure, yeah. Was it absolute bullsh*t? You bet.
