10 Worst WWE PPV Endings Ever

5. WrestleMania XXVII

Montreal Screwjob
WWE

It was billed as the 'Biggest WrestleMania Ever', and it ended with a restarted WWE Championship match, a third-wheel champion and a non-combatant standing tall. If ever there was a harbinger of the creative malaise that was to come, this was it.

The champion in question was The Miz, a rare example of WWE trying to establish a new name as a top-level star. Miz was defending his WWE Championship against John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania XXVII, presenting a great opportunity for the company. 'Mania doesn't end with a heel standing tall often but this was a chance to make Miz for good.

The Miz actually did win the match but not before a cavalcade of bullsh*t and a guarantee that he was dead as champion. The match initially ended in a double count-out (lolz), an experiment in eye-rolling if ever there was one. It was up to the host of WrestleMania to come out and restart the match, before interfering and allowing Miz to pick up the shadiest of victories.

The host in question was none other than the shiniest of all toys: The Rock. Dwayne gave Miz a Rock Bottom for good measure, posing on the ropes as the show came to a close.

The Miz went from a potential new star to a third wheel lacking all credibility. The match essentially acted as another step on the road to the next year's 'Mania main event, the 'Once in a Lifetime' showdown between Rock and Cena. We all know what happened there.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
