What were they thinking?

WWE has already thrown out some absolute bangers in 2020.

Trying to find sneaky upsides to the ongoing pandemic situation is difficult, but here's the thing: WWE probably wouldn't have put on cinematic stunners like WrestleMania 36's 'Boneyard' match between The Undertaker and AJ Styles under normal circumstances. Nor would they have went the comedy route with Money In The Bank.

Both those bouts were barmy but brilliant, and they've been joined by other crackers on NXT TakeOver specials in recent months. So, if the good is really good, then the bad must be really bad. Sort of - most of the 'worst' pay-per-view matches of 2020 thus far were more uninspired than outright awful.

Stories leading into them were limp, the calibre of title challengers was found wanting and then the actual action just didn't cut it at all. It's no use when WWE throw some bouts out there for the sake of it, and yet they've habitually done exactly that during the first six months of the year.

It's almost like there are too many pay-per-views and not enough good ideas to fill them, or something...
